I don't know about you, but I'm really enjoying gathering around the table again with my family and friends ... accompanied by some long overdue hugs! And, it looks like the event industry will be up and running again soon and we'll also be heading off to the all important food tasting.
Here are my tips to create the perfect event menu:
1. Remember - it's not about you and what you like/dislike - it's about what you're offering to your guests.
2. Strike a balance between being pedestrian and being too out there in your choices when selecting which foods to sample & don't be afraid to ask chef for advice.
3. If budget permits, opt for alternate service on all courses - if not, stick with one entree and one dessert and alternate on the main only.
4. Explore different food delivery styles - plated v's share plates v's buffet.
5. Ensure those with special dietaries are well catered for - these days, the array of dietaries is broader than ever and a 'vege stack' just doesn't cut it.
6. Consider dessert canapes instead of plated individual desserts - sometimes all you really need is one mouthful of something sweet at the end of a meal.
7. Think about seasonality and sustainability - the trend towards 'locally sourced' continues to gain traction so let's support those growers and producers.
8. If your event is themed, have chef infuse some themed food and beverage into your soiree.
9. Make sure you also sample the wines that will be served, and up-grade or swap out as required.
10. On the feel-good side of things - see if your venue/caterer has an arrangement with a food rescue organisation for any overs.
